Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna was my first Cirque show, and I cannot wait to see more. It was simply amazing! I felt as though I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, watching one fabulous stunt and trick after another. When it seemed like it couldn’t get any better, the next scene did!
Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.
In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.
The story is told in such a beautiful, mesmerizing way that you are rooting for the young lady and her suitor. Along the way, there’s a hilarious nanny and a shipwrecked captain that will have you laughing!
I received complementary tickets in exchange for promoting Amaluna. We loved the show and I would happily share my opinion anyway!
Perhaps my favorite act in Amaluna was the Balance Goddess. This woman was just awesome! She took a large pile of long palm leaf sticks and intersected them one by one, until she had them all balanced on a single stick. The total concentration and slow movements were almost as calm as someone meditating.
Other fantastic acts in the show include juggling, aerial straps, contortion, uneven bars, and more!
