Educational toddler games are our preferred way to entertain the kiddo. We’ve been playing Hide and Seek with him for months now. Sawyer understands that he needs to hide, but he tends to begin giggling the moment the ‘seeker’ goes looking for him. Because he loves the game, I was happy to find a new educational twist to it: Hello Sunshine.
We love to incorporate educational experiences in a fun way so our son doesn’t even realize he’s learning new things. Hello Sunshine incorporates hide and seek as well as important positional words and phrases such as under, on top of, beside, next to, and more.
Sunshine is an adorable stuffed sun that Sawyer loved to find. Every time I hid the toy, he would give it a big bear hug the moment he found it. He’s also started to do the hiding himself!
In a pouch on the bottom of Sunshine, there is a small deck of cards. The adult (or older child) playing draws a card and hides the sun according to the directions on the card. Then, the young child goes off on a hunt. At first, I would tell Sawyer that Sunshine was “next to the blanket” or “in front of the door”.
As he got used to the game, I would only tell him that Sunshine was next to something or on top of something. It makes the game more challenging, but he liked it all the same. The wild cards are fun too, because they test the adult’s imagination to come up with new places to hide Sunshine.
The pouch is perfect for storing the cards when we are finished playing, so they don’t get lost. Sunshine now lives with the other stuffed animals in the kiddo’s room – but unlike most of the others, he gets played with almost daily!
